Homemade Baby Food!?!?

May 31st, 2009 1 comment

3181633731_41637d31d2I have been thinking about how and what we will feed our baby in the future. Jon and I both agree that when it is time for more solid foods that we want to cook our own food and not feed out of baby jars.

So, then I got to wonder what the hell were newborns eating before formula? I asked Jon’s grandmother ”Gammy” what they used to feed the kids and she couldn’t really remember, all she said was it used to come in a can……i think it might have been formula already!
Then I asked my mother what they used to feed us in Poland, mom said that they had something like formula but my sister Sylwia couldn’t drink it because she was screaming for more food the first two weeks of her life! Finally, mom made her own baby food, here is what she used: powdered milk, water and a very small amount of corn flour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She made it here for me with regular flour and fresh milk and it was delicious.

Now, this has me thinking about the fact that I might not be able to breast feed or only for a short time. So I’m doing some research and found someone else’s blog that was interesting. Check it out if you want.

Small plug for something that may be funny. Will Ferrell did an episode of Man vs. Wild with Bear Grylls. Should be a hoot. It airs June 2nd.

A little teaser.

“Advice”

May 28th, 2009 1 comment

female_symbolMy buddy told me that everyone would be in my business about the baby. Fortunately I can say that everyone that visits this site does not fit into that aforementioned everyone category, but I get what he meant, and we’re just a few weeks into this. I’m becoming a hermit after the baby is born. I’m about sick of people asking why we would not want to find out what sex the baby is. Call me old fashioned (along with 99.999% of the people who have ever walked the face of the earth), but it won’t kill us to not know. The baby will not care if its room is a neutral color. The baby doesn’t even know its own sex for quite a long time, and even then developes its views on its own sex based on what it learns from other people.

The reason for bringing this up is that I read that only 62% of people want to find out the sex, but in my experience 100% of people will ask what the sex of your baby is. It seems like that 62% of folks is about 95% of the people that I know, because they all give me a lecture about showers, colors, Kathy will change and do this or that, blah, blah, blah. If you didn’t know, my wife isn’t from here and does not have traditional/modern American values. I’m thinking you all knew that though. :) Read more…

The Audi: Chapter 2

May 23rd, 2009 No comments

For those of you who didn’t read the previous post, I picked up a new family car yesterday. We (still) have a 2004 Infiniti G35. The G35 has 299hp, is a 2-door, and does 0-60mph in about 5.6 seconds and tops out at 150mph. The new “family” car is a car that I’ve had my eye on for a very long time. It is one of those cars that you look at when you’re driving around in your $3,000 Porsche 944 while living in Germany… oh, was that just me? No, I know two other guys that did that too.

The Audi is neato. It is an S4 (not an A4). The A4 comes with a 1.8 liter turbo, 2.0 turbo, or 3.0 liter engine, producing from 170-250hp… or somewhere in that neighborhood. The A4 chassis is nice, but still a comfortable ride. The S4 on the other hand comes with a 4.2 liter V8 which produces a whopping 345 horse power, goes from 0-60 in the low 5 second range, tops out at (a goverened) 155mph, but realistically could hit 170mph+ if Audi didn’t have it locked down. The car is all wheel drive, has recaro race seats (front and back), an awsome Bose stereo (with XM that the previous owner is still paying for), all kinds of gadgets in the mirrors (yeah, fold in for tight spaces, down for backing, defrost, etc), and can easily haul an infant around. Update aus Deutschland!

May 21st, 2009 1 comment

Hey everyone,

I thougt I will fill you in on my vacation here in Germany. I’m sitting in bed right now. I share the bed with Sylwia (its her bed!!!)……I didn’t want to sleep in the gigantic bed in the attic all by myself, so Sylwia made room for me!

The weather is good here, its not too hot, and no humidity at all! When we are not out running around shopping we like to sit outside and have lunch or dinner……I’m actually jealous that we can’t really do that back home because its so humid. We went shopping a couple of times and i bought a few things, I already have two boxes full of german food and candy that I will mail back…………..can’t help it!

My friend Katharina came by yesterday with her 3 kids, they were all very sweet and behaved very well, that’s because they’re german (sorry, american kids are rotten, I see it everyday at work!!!). I plan on seeing a few more friends while I’m here and just enjoy my time with the family!

Baby Dream!

May 21st, 2009 3 comments

I think I had a another baby dream last night. For those of you who don’t know I already had a dream about 1 week ago and the baby was a boy, about six months old in the carseat.

The dream last night was about an ultrasound, i counldn’t see the sex and it was like the 3D view that they can do these days.  Very detailed, and I was very happy to find out that it was my baby (no idea why). Anyway, I thought i would share this with everyone!

A Clothing Catastrophe!!!

May 17th, 2009 2 comments

I got a call from Kathy this afternoon. She’s been calling me at about 5-6 EST to tell me that she is going to bed (Germany is 6 hours ahead). This particular evening she had a new development to share with me. She told me that her capri pants would no longer fit!!! Thats right, my size 2 wife who is 13 or so weeks pregnant can no longer fit into her pants. She’ probably up to a size 2.5 now. She seemed ok with it and said that she would be buying some stretchy pants while she’s there.

I know, a big development. We’re going to talk via webcam while she’s there, but I don’t want to see her belly until she gets back on the 4th. I think it will be a more dramatic change for me to not see her for quite a while. I would like to add that we have spent some time apart in the past, but always me traveling away from her. Since she’s pregnant, and she’s the one that is traveling, it seems to be extra rough on me this time. I hope to be able to keep myself sane while she’s gone.

Kathy: Abroad

May 15th, 2009 4 comments

german-flagIf  you haven’t heard, my wife and lime sized baby are in Germany. I just got a call from Kathy and she is sitting in her mother’s kitchen. She was eating some kind of spaghetti with gravy of some sort. It may not sound great, but everything that Kathy’s mom makes is excellent.

She’ll be gone for the next 21 or so days… yeah, I know. I’ll be busy for at least the next week. That is about the extent of how long I can keep myself occupied. I plan to finish the drywall, ceiling texture, paint the ceiling, prime the walls (not sure on a wall color yet), set the new cabinets and stove in place, run gas for the stove, finish building the bedroom furniture, rebuild the outdrive and engine in dad’s boat… and thats about it. A pretty slow week :) .
