Ok, laziness has gotten the best of us. 12 weeks and no real posts…

We went to the doc 4 weeks ago and she used the ultrasound to measure the baby and determined the due date to be 25 Nov. Great. Our math (which the date of conception may not be 100%) put the baby here on 10 Nov. 

We went to the OB/Gyn yesterday and had the 11 week visit. At least we think 11 weeks. The doc used an external probe to listen to the heart. Just a wand with a speaker attached to it. It took her a good 15 seconds to find the heart beat, which felt like an eternity. She moved that wand around everywhere and finally found it. I guess that until the baby gets to be  a certain size that it is difficult to find the sucker. The heartbeat was strong and around 160.

The doctor then performed a pap smear, which looked to be a very pleasant experience for Kathy . She then measured Kathy’s uterus and gave us an uh-oh kind of look. She said that Kathy’s uterus is bigger than what it should be at this particular time. That isn’t a bad thing, it just means that Kathy MAY be further along than 11 weeks, maybe 13 like we originally though. Dr. Cadigan, the doc, said that she’s delivered over 1000 babies and that measuring the uterus is very accurate. The odd thing is that she can tell the due date by measuring alone, and it is accurate. Talk about being good at your job. She did come highly recommended. 

My theory is this… well, I have 2 theories actually:

1. The baby was turned awkwardly the first time and the doc didn’t get a good measurement in the first ultrasound. I’m not sure how likely this is.
2. I haven’t ran this by Kathy yet, but it is a possibility. The baby is 13 weeks along, is smaller, because there is another one right behind it. Who knows? We only heard one heart beat, but after searching around for the one for as long as she did, why would you look for a second. There is a lot of room for error for not finding twins.
