Quick update!

November 27th, 2009

We haven’t posted anything in a while, so here is a quick update. Olivia is doing good, her eye infection is gone and she is pooping almost like normal again. As I write this, she is screaming at the top of her lungs because she is sooooo tired but wants to fall asleep in someones arms and not in her own bed! I hate hearing her cry.

I feel fine right now, but the doc appointment on Monday revealed that my blood pressure is still high, so the doc increased the dosage……. I’m still on house arrest until we go back in TWO WEEKS (it sucks not being able to leave the house much).

We will try to post some new pics this weekend!

P.s.: Jon just came up from the basement to pick up the screamer….it kills him!

Eye Infection

November 17th, 2009

Our little doozer has an eye infection in her right eye. We woke up this morning and she had puss all over it and it was shut dry. We took her to see the doc and he gave her a cream to put in it, should start getting better tomorrow.

She also forgot how to poop, something the doc told us about when we first took her. Apparently, babies poop reflex goes away and they have to figure out how to push it out. Needless to say, last night she was kicking and screaming because she had gas. But looks like the poop is coming back, yay!

I went to see my doc yesterday. They took my blood pressure twice because the first time was pretty high still. But she thinks the meds are helping and its getting better. She also released me from bed rest, but I’m till not allowed to go out grocery shopping etc.

The scale said I was 5 lbs lighter than the week before……soooooo 15 lbs more to go!

Update from the doc!

November 10th, 2009

We went to see my OB/GYN yesterday to get checked out!
Unfortunately my blood pressure remains high at 170 over 110, so I am now on blood pressure medication. We go back next monday and if the meds help, then I will stay on them for at least another 7 weeks. The pre-eclampsia has to run its course!!!!

The scale said that I have lost 20 lbs. down from 158lbs. Its mostly water weight, the weekend before Olivia was born I gained 4 lbs. from friday to the monday I was admitted to the hospital! But i’m happy that my feet are almost back to normal and so are my legs. Now I have 20 lbs. more to shed to get back to normal…..I wonder how much these boobs weigh right now??????

Anyway, we had a big day yesterday. We stopped at my work (close to the docs office) to visit with the girls! I miss them! After that we went to Babies R us (yeah, already) because we ALREADY needed more diapers. So u wanna see baby?? u bring diapers…..just kidding!!!!!

Olivia is doing great. We wake her every 2-3 hours to eat, after that Jon likes to keep her up for a bit and love on her!
She pretty much eats and sleeps right now, she even does good when we change her diapers!

Feeding Time!

November 8th, 2009

Olivia had some difficulties feeding because her mouth is so small, and therefore her latch wasn’t great no matter how far she was put onto Kathy’s nipple. Fortunately we managed to get her to open her mouth much wider today.

She was eating 20mL every 2 hours around the clock, and all of the sudden she got fussy last night. She wouldn’t stop wimpering a few minutes after we had fed her. She went from just wanting 20mL to 60mL overnight! She’s an eating machine now. Fortunately Kathy can pump over 100mL at a time now, which is a good indication that the baby could nipple feed more than that. Pumping is supposed to be about 75% as effective as the baby’s mouth.

The seedy shits have started as well. I’ve since started calling it poop in front of the baby and scold her mom when she uses the old word that we used just a few days ago. So, peeing, pooping, eating, sleeping… she does it all.

Anyway, we have started ironing out some of the wrinkles and had a few minutes to enjoy ourselves. I made a clip last night in the early AM for you to enjoy.

Update!

November 7th, 2009

Jon and Olivia are sleeping right now and I will make a quick post before its feeding time!

We went to the pediatrician yesterday and everything checked out great! We were worried about Olivia’s weight since she had lost 8% of her original birth weight at the hospital and we therefore  had to use formula for a couple of feedings…..which makes me sick because it smells awful!!! But turns out that she gained 1 oz from Thursday-Friday thanks to breast milk! I’ve got a lot more of it now. The doc said she didn’t need to come back for another month, and he also filled us in on things that are going to happen soon and that we don’t need to worry.

I currently can pump only.  We are having problems latching on correctly because of the size of her mouth and she has done some pretty good damage…..but she does like to nurse!

Here are some pics.

P.s.: I’m in love with her!!!!!

First night at home

November 5th, 2009

We brought Olivia home today. I was white knuckled and thought everyone was swerving toward me the entire way home. Dad told me it would be like that. We made it though, and the baby is never leaving the house again in the car. Mom and Jeff were here already, and they had the house spotless, and Jeff did his normal thing… he outdid himself as always and got the baby a ton of gifts. We really appreciate everything that he did for us, especially making a special trip from California in time to make the birth and then flying right back out again. We really enjoyed it.

Mom cooked us hash-brown casserole, chicken pot pie, and a turkey loin of some sort that smells really good. We’ve got enough food to last at least until tomorrow :) . Speaking of food, we had a breakthrough. Gary stopped on his way home from work and got us the breast pump that Kathy needed. Kathy has been pumping a good deal, and the most she’s gotten has been 1.2mL. She managed to pump over 4 mL tonight in the comfort of her own bed, which may have had something to do with it.

Olivia is sleeping. Having a premie is a lot of work. We have to monitor her diet very closely, her temperature, and have to get her weighed often. That should only last for the next few weeks, until then, we’ll be busy with additional work. Kathy is still on strict bed rest until we see the doc on Monday, but may then only be able to venture to the couch. Hopefully everything goes well with her and she’s able to go back to doing whatever she likes sooner rather than later.

I’m excited to finally get to enjoy a night in bed without worrying about hitting the belly, although the dog pee pad that Kathy has to sleep on could go away and I’d care less :)

More pics tomorrow after our first pediatrician appointment. She looks a LOT different already. I’m really getting a kick out of this.

EDIT: Kathy just pumped 16mL. I guess being at home is doing her some good. The baby should start putting on some weight now. The nurse said 5-7oz a week. She’ll be a fat baby any minute.

Baby’s Name

November 4th, 2009

I’m beat. I could see if everything had gone smoothly that I would feel much better, but all of the complications have caused me to worry myself tired. Kathy got the cath out and has walked to the restroom and back on her own… rediscovering her pelvis. The baby is in the nursery for just a few minutes while Kathy takes a nap (me too in a sec), and she’ll be back in less than an hour to eat again. So far, I’d say she’s a keeper. She doesn’t cry. She just eats and sleeps (and so far has done a lot of something in her diaper).

So, the name. We went through a lot of trouble to use a family name and after a lot of ideas and debate we totally decided to pick a name at random. The baby’s name is Olivia Renée… you should know the last name.
