First night at home

We brought Olivia home today. I was white knuckled and thought everyone was swerving toward me the entire way home. Dad told me it would be like that. We made it though, and the baby is never leaving the house again in the car. Mom and Jeff were here already, and they had the house spotless, and Jeff did his normal thing… he outdid himself as always and got the baby a ton of gifts. We really appreciate everything that he did for us, especially making a special trip from California in time to make the birth and then flying right back out again. We really enjoyed it.

Mom cooked us hash-brown casserole, chicken pot pie, and a turkey loin of some sort that smells really good. We’ve got enough food to last at least until tomorrow :) . Speaking of food, we had a breakthrough. Gary stopped on his way home from work and got us the breast pump that Kathy needed. Kathy has been pumping a good deal, and the most she’s gotten has been 1.2mL. She managed to pump over 4 mL tonight in the comfort of her own bed, which may have had something to do with it.

Olivia is sleeping. Having a premie is a lot of work. We have to monitor her diet very closely, her temperature, and have to get her weighed often. That should only last for the next few weeks, until then, we’ll be busy with additional work. Kathy is still on strict bed rest until we see the doc on Monday, but may then only be able to venture to the couch. Hopefully everything goes well with her and she’s able to go back to doing whatever she likes sooner rather than later.

I’m excited to finally get to enjoy a night in bed without worrying about hitting the belly, although the dog pee pad that Kathy has to sleep on could go away and I’d care less :)

More pics tomorrow after our first pediatrician appointment. She looks a LOT different already. I’m really getting a kick out of this.

EDIT: Kathy just pumped 16mL. I guess being at home is doing her some good. The baby should start putting on some weight now. The nurse said 5-7oz a week. She’ll be a fat baby any minute.

I’m so glad you guys are home now! I can’t wait to see more pictures of Olivia. I hope Kathy is feeling okay and that she gets the bedrest lifted soon! Take good care of those girls, Jon!

I personally think you guys picked a beautiful name and the pics are gorgeous. Except, I see she has a head of hair similar to Jon’s at the moment. I’m sure that will change soon though, for her anyway ;-) Good luck to the 3 of you. I’m glad to hear everything went ok. Get some rest while you can.
